The late Software Developer

It is both pretty exciting but also a bit nerve-wracking to have your decade-old job turning into something completely different.

I used to take pleasure in coding with deep, highly focused sessions; I am now juggling all day with 20+ parallel agentic sessions. Brain-wise, it is not the same stimulus and honestly feels a bit weird.

While I used to avoid any distraction to preserve the “flow”, I am now constantly switching contexts to unblock my agents and (somewhat) guide them to the next step, while also trying to optimize my rate limits as best as possible, a newfound critical discipline.

But this evolution has enabled me to build a dozen native macOS/iOS apps in the last few months, random ideas I had on the side that were not worth the time required to build them before. Not anymore.

If I keep this pace, I will be managing hundreds of apps next year, so it is becoming quite obvious that software-wise, like in every industrialized domain, “the factory is the product”; and I am the bottleneck in it.

So my job is now, quite literally, trying to remove myself from the equation, as quickly as possible. Which is, while counter-intuitive, a good source of fun in a dramatically reshaped landscape.

I have published dozens of MCPs and two tools to run that factory:

• Bastion, which runs each MCP server once for every client on the Mac, with credentials in the Keychain and every call logged.
• Cupertino, which enables any agent to safely access all your Apple-ecosystem data.
